Visiting a foreign country can be an adventure. For one thing, it’s a different language there. The culture is different and the weather may be different. Looking at the popular sights and architectures in a country such as the chateaus in France and famous London Bridge or Statue of Liberty is way better than reading about them in history books. Also, it is an opportunity to taste a new thing or two – literally. Sink your teeth into a new adventure as you savor what food the country has to offer.
One of the things people look forward to travel is the food. Food is a universal language everyone understands. Food of a country may tell you about a country’s history, agriculture, and sometimes a bit of their lifestyle. For example, the abundance of seafood in a country such as Japan is due to its vast shoreline. If you might travel to Vietnam and find that their desserts are rich, there must be a French influence somewhere in their history. Croatia’s diet has influence from France, Italy, as well and Greece and Hungary. Pasta is served not only in Italy but also in Croatia and Germany, where spaghetti is now considered a main staple food. Asian countries prefer rice over bread, and in Germany, meats are staple as Asians love their starch in noodles. There are differences in each country you travel, and each is an adventure on its own.
In searching for food in a country, it’s best to check online for blogs and reviews on where to go. Checking online will let you preselect your choices on where to dine, plus some sites list how much the dishes are, so you know how to budget your travel. There might also be an “accidental” discovery of a quaint little restaurant at the corner street, far away from the Eiffel tower where all the tourists are may be a sweet little French café that serves the most delectable desserts. There might be a little food adventure in quiet corners and streets, a new discovery just waiting to be visited. As we take photos of popular sites, why not take photos of a favorite dish or drink?
Travel may be a new adventure to the taste buds and senses. Visiting a new place may be a gastronomical experience for anyone. While at it, try to visit local village restaurants and food stands rather than popular international food franchises that you can even get at your home country (unless of course, it’s where it originated from). It’s fun and priceless experience that you would be glad to remember.
